John Paul II John Paul II School is the main Roman Catholic secondary school in the area. It is a foundation school. Compared to other state schools in the area it is small, with only 580 pupils aged 11-16, 267 applications are received for 120 places. A proposal has been put forward for this school to merge with another local school (July 2007). Parents to have their say on new RC school How do you get in? The school maintains a strong Catholic ethos, and this is reflected in the admissions criteria, which primarily require that the applicants are baptised Catholic and that they/their families are actively committed Catholics. Some non-catholic places may be offered under specific circumstances.
