Putney Society Husting Packed | ||||||||
Large attendance and lively debate reflects the high local interest in the election l-r Fergal McEntee, Fleur Anderson, Jonathan Callaway, Will Sweet, Sue Wixley
The Community Church in Putney was packed this evening when around 250 people attended the General Election Hustings organised by The Putney Society. The Society membership had indicated four broad areas, in addition to Brexit, on which they wanted to hear the candidates views; Climate Emergency, the lack of a “Remain” alliance in the constituency, Adult Social Care and the need for Food Banks. The Hustings Chair, Jonathan Callaway, read these out at the start of the meeting before each of the four candidates spoke for 6 minutes. The candidates drew to decide the order of speaking: Sue Wixley (Liberal Democrat), Will Sweet (Conservative), Fleur Anderson (Labour) and Fergal McEntee (Green) The candidates statements were followed by a 12 minute session for each answering questions from the floor. These ranged from general topics such as the climate emergency through Brexit to local issues and included questions around tactical voting. The large attendance and lively debate reflects the high interest in the election in the Putney, Roehampton and Southfields constituency.
