Police say victim collided with vehicle they were pursuing
August 26, 2021 A man has been taken to hospital after being involved in a collision in the early hours of Tuesday morning ( 24 August). It is understood that he was riding a three-wheeled moped when he was hit by a car near the junction of Upper Richmond Road and Putney High Street. The wreckage of the bike was seen on the street outside the local branch of the Halifax. The police say they initiated a pursuit of a suspect vehicle when it failed to stop and that the rider of the moped was hit by that car. An air ambulance was called to the scene to assist and the victim was taken to a major trauma centre after being treated at the scene. The police closed roads in the area following the incident and they remained shut for much of the following day. A spokesperson for the Met said, "At approximately 1:30ams on Tuesday, 24 August, officers attempted to stop a car after it had failed to stop for police in the Putney area. "The subject vehicle collided with a moped on Putney High Street close to the junction with Upper Richmond Road, SW15. "The rider was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service with serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. The driver was arrested at the scene.” The Directorate of Professional Standards and Independent Office for Police Conduct have been informed as is usual in such cases.
