'Together we will remember them'

Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association based in Southfields laid a remembrance wreath at the memorial at St. Paul’s Church. The community - which locally promotes education, integration and interfaith peace - said they were “honoured to lay a wreath on Remembrance Sunday”.
Over the last two weeks the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders have held a Poppy Appeal campaign with the Charity Walk for Peace, an initiative where members from the community have manned the many Poppy stalls in and around Wandsworth.
Every year the Elders' Charity Walk for Peace collects thousands of pounds for the Royal British Legion. In 2018, over £500,000 was collected.
Mahmood Ahmad, Regional Head of Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association, said, “It is always a poignant time of year and an incredible honour to be laying a wreath at the Remembrance Sunday Ceremony.
“Members from our Community are here today to not only pay our respects but to stand shoulder to shoulder with other communities in praying for, and remembering, those who fought for our country, for our freedom, for our peace. United we stand!”
Ahmad Ahsan, Regional Coordinator, Charity Walk for Peace, added, “Islam teaches loyalty to one’s country, and what can be more humbling than laying a wreath to remember those who fought for our freedom. Together WE WILL REMEMBER THEM!”
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association works closely with charitable organisations and community groups to promote peace and provide volunteers and funds for organisations who are working towards humanitarian and environmental causes.
The Fazi Mosque in Southfields is the headquarters of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community. It was London’s first purpose-built mosque when it opened in 1926 and is now a Grade II listed building. It has been described as a fusion of Indian Mughal architectural forms and contemporary British trends, with the spherical dome on the buttressed square base resembling the 1923 twin towers of Wembley Stadium. The Mosque was built with funds raised by the Ahmadiyya Community in India and supported by voluntary labour.
