More students than ever receive the coveted top grades in their exams
Students from a local Wandsworth school are celebrating an impressive haul of GCSE results as more students than ever receive the top grades in their exams.
Ark Putney Academy had another strong set of GCSE results this year. 22 Putney students were awarded a 9 - the most to achieve this top mark in the school’s history.
Among Ark Putney Academy’s strongest performers in this year’s GCSEs was
Sinead Brown, pictured above, who has shown incredible diligence and a hardworking mind-set. In addition to her outstanding academic ability she is also the youngest board member of the Office for Students, a government-approved independent regulator for higher education in England. Today she celebrates an incredible result of 6 9’s in Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, French and Art and 3 8’s in English and Physics. “I am over the moon. I had hoped I would do this well but did have my doubts. When I first opened my results ‘I thought no way this isn’t happening!’ My mum is eagerly awaiting my call at work. Ark Putney Academy has been great – the teachers are so supportive”
Jane Driver, pictured above, also scooped up some impressive results across the board with 8s and 9s in Science, Media, Maths, Music and History. She says “I had access to so many additional opportunities at APA particularly for my creative subjects. For example we set up a band outside of our music lessons and in our Media class we had so many great resources to use. I don’t think I would have got this type of guidance from other schools”.
Perhaps one of their biggest success stories comes in the form of student Abdikadir Osman, pictured above, who truly encapsulates the meaning of hard work. “When I joined the school from Somalia I knew very little English. The transition was hard for me and as a result my behaviour in the classroom was pretty poor at times. I feel like my teachers at Ark Putney recognised my potential and really motivated me to do my best. I started Year 11 on a grade 5 in Maths – today I have opened my results to find I have achieved an 8 in maths and 9s in science. I am really proud of what I have achieved and grateful to my teachers for helping me get there”
Ark Putney Principal Alison Downey, pictured above, said: “Many of our students have done really well this year and I am delighted to see so many celebrating after all their hard work. I believe that here at Ark Putney we create an environment that really drives students to reach their full potential. Our students are engaged and aspirational – and I feel sure that we will continue to enjoy ongoing success with our results as the school grows.
