Now known as John Radford, he will be charged with administering substance with intent
The former cabbie who was imprisoned for a string of rapes is facing new charges following further investigations by the police.
62 -year-old John Radford (formerly John Worboys) who is currently serving time in HMP Wakefield, was charged via n on Wednesday, 1 May with the following offences:
- Two counts of administering a stupefying or overpowering drug with intent (contrary to Section 22 of the Offences against the Person Act 1861)
- Two counts of administering a substance with intent (contrary to Section 61 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003).
Each of the four charges relates to offences committed between 2000 and 2008, in London against four separate individuals relating to allegations made in early 2018.
John Radford (formerly Worboys)
Radford is due to appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 23 May.
He was jailed in 2009 for sexually assaulting 12 women in London including a woman from Putney whom he picked up outside a club on Tottenham Court Road on 21 December 2007. He raped her after driving her home. DNA evidence was used as evidence to convict him. Worboys was convicted of 19 offences including one count of rape, five sexual assaults, one attempted assault and 12 drugging charges. Police believe he was responsible for a much greater number of offences than those for which he was convicted. He was sentenced to a minimum of eight years in jail with an indeterminate sentence which meant he could be detained as long as it was felt he presented a danger to women.
A Parole Board decision last year to consider him for release was quickly reversed when it emerged that his victims had not been informed of the possibility and that the police were still investigating further possible offences.
