Mother's partner Jake Drummond accused of shaking him to death
February 17, 2023 A trial at the Old Bailey is hearing details of the events that led to the death of toddler Jacob Lennon in Roehampton in 2019. His mother’s former partner, Jake Drummond, is accused of murdering him by shaking him to death after a sustained campaign of violence against him. The boy’s mother, 32-year-old Louise Lennon is accused of causing or allowing the death and child cruelty. The prosecution alleges that Drummond killed 16-month-old Jacob on 27 August 2019 after taking cocaine with a friend the day before. The jury was told that the unemployed 33-year-old had become angry at Lennon because he had been reported for harassment. The assault alleged was the culmination of a campaign of deliberate cruelty and violence against the child which he joked about on texts exchanged with Louise Lennon. According to a report on the BBC, messages included a reference to putting him in ‘the torture chamber’ and his mother describing him looking like ‘a little madman’ due to the extent of his bruises.
Lennon called the emergency services early in the morning telling them that Jacob must have fallen out of bed and, when they arrived at the flat, he was found to have significant swelling and bruising on his face. He was taken to St. George’s Hospital in Tooting but was pronounced dead at 7.22am. A post mortem revealed multiple traumas that were days and weeks old including damage to his skull, swollen testicles and traces of cocaine in his system. It was concluded that Jacob was probably unconscious for several hours before the 999 call was made at 6.02am. The prosecution is contending that Drummond launched a campaign of violence against Jacob over a two-month period which his mother allowed to happen. When questioned about her son’s injuries she had claimed they were due to accidents or had been caused by other children. Drummond and Lennon are denying the charges made against them. Their trial continues at the Old Bailey
