Antoni Imiela, who was labeled the 'M25 rapist', is being considered for parole despite being jailed for the equivalent of seven life sentences for rape including one in Putney. The announcement comes shortly after it was revealed that John Worboys, another man who was responsible for the rape of a local woman, was being considered for release.

Imiela committed a spate of sexual assaults including the rape of a 26-year-old nurse on Putney Heath in July 2002. Earlier the same day he had raped a 30-year-old woman in Earlswood Surrey.

He was jailed in 2004 and in 2012 he was convicted of a rape dating back more than 20 years following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police's Cold Case Sapphire Team.

A spokesman for the Parole Board said, "We can confirm that the Ministry of Justice has referred the case of Antoni Imiela for a parole review." They said that it would be "following the standard six-month process for all indeterminate sentence prisoners".

However, it is understood that any hearing to decide Imiela's parole is unlikely to take place in the next six months.

His first alleged rape victim in November 2001 was a 10-year-old girl he snatched outside a youth club in Ashford, Kent.

In 2012 Det Con Watts, who was involved in the case against Imiela said, "Imiela was a particularly dangerous and predatory rapist, well known as the M25 rapist for the numerous offences he committed across the Home Counties."
