Jailed for series of rapes including one on Putney Heath
Antoni Imiela, who was labeled the 'M25 rapist' has died in prison. The 63-year-old serial sex attacker from Kent was suffering from a heart condition according to the Prison Service. Earlier this year it was reported that he was being considered for release from HMP Wakefield despite having been sentenced to seven life sentences. The announcement came shortly after it was revealed that John Worboys, another man who was responsible for the rape of a woman in Putney, was being considered for release. Imiela committed a spate of sexual assaults including the rape of a 26-year-old nurse on Putney Heath. He was jailed in 2004 and in 2012 he was convicted of a rape dating back more than 20 years following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police's Cold Case Sapphire Team. In 2012 Det Con Watts, who was involved in the case against Imiela said. "Imiela was a particularly dangerous and predatory rapist, well known as the M25 rapist for the numerous offences he committed across the Home Counties."
