Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal said one-year suspension until January sufficient punishment

Former rowing captain Alistair Main lost his job with Schroders two days after he was convicted in January 2017 and escaped a jail sentence for his actions. At the time of his conviction District Judge Barbara Barnes told Main that he would not work in the sector again, but the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal has decided that he need not lose his practicing certificate but a one year suspension was his punishment, which will end in January 2019.

At a Christmas party in 2015, Main, poured beer over a woman’s head and called her an 'Aussie slut' when she rejected his advances. Main, who is married, was sacked from his job as a solicitor at investment firm Schroders two days after he was convicted at the start of January 2017.

District Judge Barbara Barnes gave Main a 12-month community order and ordered him to sign the sex offenders register for five years. He was also given a restraining order, banning him from contacting the woman for five years and ordered to pay £1,000 in costs and a £85 victim surcharge.
