In May of this year it was announced that Daley Fitness & Gyms Ltd, the company who own Daley Fitness, an the exclusive gym on the Upper Richmond Road launched by Olympic Decathlon champion Daley Thompson, had gone into liquidation, with an estimated ‘total deficiency’ of £1.2 million.

Concerns that this might spell the end of the Daley Fitness gym, which has over 400 members, are to be allayed, according to Frank Grigor, who took over the directorship of the gym at the end of August through new company Daleyfitness Weekenders Ltd. Mr Grigor, 67, who had previously not been involved with the gym, is the half brother of Daley Thompson.

Speaking with Putney SW15, Mr Grigor commented that news of the gym’s financial difficulties had had a significant effect on trade with many clients contacting the gym to enquire as to its ongoing state. With new management and a ‘substantial amount’ of Mr Grigor’s own financial investment, he said that the gym is now solvent again and plans to remain open for the foreseeable future.

While Daley Thompson is still involved in running classes at Daley Fitness and is a director of the new company Daleyfitness Weekenders Ltd, it is understood that, Gavin Sunshine, one of the company’s previous directors, has no role with the gym going forward.
