Double Whammy for Putney Commuters During Train Strike | ||||
Local District Line services likely to be disrupted for six days
Putney commuters hoping to use London Underground as an alternative to the trains during the forthcoming strikes may be disappointed. It is understood that there may be a disrupted service at East Putney and Southfields stations on the District Line for six days from Tuesday 21 to Sunday 26 June with the possibility of no service at all on strike days. This is because beyond Parsons Green station signalling is controlled by Network Rail operators rather than London Underground staff. On Tuesday 21 June, there will be a minimal service, if any on London Underground, with trains resuming after 8am on Wednesday 22 June and not returning to a more regular service until mid-morning. This is the last day of strikes in the current round involving London Underground staff but the Wimbledon branch of the District Line will continue to be affected throughout the dispute. On Thursday 23 June there is strike action on national rail services but not London Underground but the possibility is that the Wimbledon branch may be closed or operating with a severely reduced capacity. Disruption on this service will continue to mid-morning on the following day. A third day of strike action takes place on national rail services on Saturday 25 June which is also likely to impact the Wimbledon branch with disruption through to Sunday morning. South Western Railway has announced a provisional strike time-table which will see four trains an hour running between Windsor & Eton Riverside and Waterloo stopping at Putney. It is expected these services will be extremely busy especially in the morning and possibly will be full to capacity by the time they arrive at Putney. The Waterloo & City line will also be closed on strike days. We have asked Transport for London to provide further details on the likely level of service at East Putney and Southfields and await a response.
