82-year-old Roy Steggall dies after being hit by lorry on Werter Road
The pedestrian killed after being hit by a lorry in the centre of Putney earlier this month has been named by police. The victim has been identified as 82-year-old Roy Steggall, of Dyers Lane, Putney. He was struck by the lorry on Werter Road near the junction with Putney High Street at around 9.40am on Wednesday, 7 November. He suffered a head injury and, despite the efforts of paramedics, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are now appealing for anyone who may have seen the incident to come forward with information. The lorry driver stopped at the scene. Detective Constable Atiq Haque, from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said, “Although we have already spoken to a number of witnesses, we believe there are more people who were in the area at the time the collision occurred. “We are keen to hear from anyone who may have further information to call us on 020 8543 5157." Around 40 minutes later there was a second fatality a short distance away when a person was hit by a train at Putney station. That death is not being treated as suspicious. |
