Judges rate each of the shortlist worthy of a national platform
121 Upper Richmond Rd and Chadwick Hall, Roehampton University are on the shortlist
The Housing Design Awards were launched in 1948 in the same sitting of Parliament as the NHS to reward better municipal post-war rebuilding, then opened up to market sale homes in 1960 by Harold Macmillan.
Chadwick Hall was commissioned by the University of Roehampton. Providing three student residences, situated in the grounds of the Grade II* listed 18th Century Georgian villa Downshire House and adjacent to the London County Council’s world renowned Grade II* listed Alton West Estate. The architects design co-opts the garden, part of this historic parkland setting, to make a convivial plan for the student community.

Student housing is especially rewarding to work on because it is about creating a community for a very important and formative phase in people’s lives,”
121 Upper Richmond Road, a development by London Square, comprises
one, two and three bedroom apartments and penthouses, designed by architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris. These awards are promoted by all 5 major professional institutions – RICS, RIBA, RPTI, Landscape Institute and Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists.
