With demand for reception class places rising again this year the counci lhas announced that it is set to increase capacity at several local primary schools. The latest forecasts indicate that the number of children in Wandsworth primary schools will increase by around 1,500 over the next five years - a 10 per cent climb.

The borough’s rising birth rate is behind the increase and the recession could also have caused more families to apply for mainstream places this year. There are plans for extra places at West Hill School for September 2009 intake and a permanent expansion scheme is planned for Hotham School.
