Wandsworth Liberal Democrats set up a Brexitometer in Putney High Street on Saturday afternoon (30 September).

In what they would admit was an unscientific attempt to gauge local public opinion on the Government handling of the Brexit negotiations and whether there is public support to hold a second referendum, shoppers were asked to place dots next to their preferred responses.

Over two hours 277 respondents gave their opinions by sticking a 'Agree / 'Disagree' / 'Don't know' in response to following questions:

What do you think? Agree Don't know * Disagree *
1. Brexit Talks are going well 4% 5% 92%
2. I trust the government to get a good deal. 6% 5% 89%
3. I think the people not politicians should get the final say 78% 6% 16%

* Please note correction to earlier version of the table

The Liberal Democrats said there was some lively discussion and it was a good natured affair but they claim the results show the people of Putney do not have much confidence in the government delivering a Brexit deal that serves the country well and there would seem to be overwhelming support for a People's Vote.

The results are not hugely surprising as the Putney constituency voted by over 70% in favour of staying in the EU in the original referendum.
