A Special Visitor For Mosaic Primary Pupils | ||||
Justine Greening MP opens Art facility at South London's only Jewish School
Mosaic Jewish Primary School (MJPS) hosted a very special visitor on Friday 9 March. Justine Greening, Member of Parliament for Putney, Roehampton and Southfields visited South London's only Jewish School to officially open the school’s new Art, Design and Technology (ADT) Room. The new facility has been funded through a successful bid to the Maurice Hatter Foundation and the Friends of Mosaic. "The ADT room is fully equipped with a range of resources that will enable the children to explore a wide range of creative learning techniques," commented Chair of Governors, David Kelin. "We are aware that such a dedicated facility is unusual in a primary school. We are extremely grateful to all those who have supported the creation of a ‘cutting edge’ resource for our children." "MJPS is committed to delivering a creative curriculum which also develops children’s confidence and problem solving skills. We give our pupils every opportunity to broaden and develop their learning journey through as many mediums as possible," enthused acting-Headteacher Nerrissa Bear. During her visit Ms Greening was invited to officially open the new ADT facility and unveil a new piece of artwork by London-based artist Louisa Tebbut. She was shown around the school including the new developing Learning Resource Areas and received a short presentation on Shabbat from The Torah Team. The Torah Team is group of remarkable Year 4 pupils have taken on the responsibility for preparing the ‘welcome to Shabbat’ that takes place every Friday afternoon. They were particularly keen to share news of their recent assembly at Oak Lodge School which focuses on children who are deaf or have hearing difficulties. The work of the Torah Team is particularly important as MJPS is a cross communal multi-denominational Jewish primary school with 50% of places allocated to non-faith applicants, so raising its profile both within the Jewish Community and beyond is critical. Commenting on The Torah Team presentation Ms Greening said, "I now understand a great deal about Shabbat and how you celebrate it as a Community. It is really exciting to see children of all faiths sharing and learning together. Mosaic is a wonderful example of a successful and inclusive faith school." March 15, 2018 |
