Cllr Jane Cooper chose the club as one of the charities she officially supported during her mayor year. The club plans to spend the money on a new minibus.

This is the fourth cheque to be presented by Cllr Cooper as she distributes funds raised during the year. The first was given to AgeUK Wandsworth, the second to the animal charity Battersea and the third to the Alzheimers Society.

The Mayor has raised money through a string of charity events and galas, including a quiz, a ‘Bop to the 80s’ night and a float in the New Year’s Day Parade.

Cllr Cooper said: ““Karen and Nathan do such marvellous work for the Wandsworth community. They teach boxing skills to boys and girls, but also provide structure and stability, mentoring young people, instilling confidence, discipline and respect and helping to keep them out of trouble. I’m delighted to be able to support their work.”

Karen Horsford is head coach and manager of the boxing club, which is changing its name to the Wandsworth Boxing Club to reflect the expansion of its work borough-wide. Last year Karen won a Wandsworth Council Civic Award for her contribution to Wandsworth and its young people. She said: “I’d like to thank the Mayor on behalf of Putney and Roehampton Boxing Club. We just can’t wait to get a minibus and start the ball rolling.”
