Police successfully talked down 'despondent' man

Putney Bridge was closed to all traffic this Thursday (18 June) due to a man threatening to jump into the river.

Police took the measure to give them an opportunity to talk down the man who they described as 'despondent'.

A resident said that the man was,"sitting on a ledge on the west side with the Police launch waiting to pick him up."

The bridge was reopened although traffic disruption continued into the evening rush hour. The police thanked the public for their consideration.
