Putney High School has cemented its position as one of the UK’s top schools for sport, becoming national champions in netball, gymnastics and lacrosse over the last few weeks.

Putney’s U19 lacrosse team won the 2022 National Schools Lacrosse Championships, making history for the school by winning the Championship for the first time with a 2-0 victory over Berkhamsted.

The U15 team came second at the championships.

This success was proceeded by an unprecedented run of netball triumphs. The U12 became double national champions in the School Sports Magazine and the Sisters n Sport competitions and Putney’s U13 netballers took national titles in the School Sports Magazine and Independent Schools championships. The U14s were also national winners.

Head Suzie Longstaff, herself a former Olympic rowing cox, said, “Sport is an integral part of life at Putney and these successes show just what is possible with a huge amount of hard work and team spirit. I couldn’t be more delighted – we are clearly going to need a new trophy cabinet!”

England Lacrosse Captain and Putney’s, Head of Lacrosse, Claire Faram said, “The 1st team played some incredible lacrosse and never lost their fighting spirit throughout the tournament, despite facing some tough losses in the pool play that would determine our route to the final. However, we regrouped and under the exceptional leadership of our lacrosse captain Grace Penny, the team bounced back and played with absolute passion right to the end. It was an inspiring display of resilience and quite moving to see the pure elation when the final whistle went. You could really see what it meant to them.”
