A musical celebration concert at Cadogan Hall of Putney High School’s 125 years
On Monday 26 March, Cadogan Hall provided the spectacular venue for Putney High School GDST’s 125th anniversary concert.
The music department gathered with instrumentalists and singers from both Junior and Senior schools, ably accompanied by Putney’s Orchestra in Residence, the London Mozart Players.
The audience was treated to melodies from stage and screen, orchestral miniatures and inspiring choral and instrumental performances by musicians from throughout the school.
It was an impressive and packed programme with many highlights showcasing an impressive array of talent. The evening included the premiere of a specially commissioned piece for massed choirs and orchestra by award-winning composer, Debbie Wiseman MBE. “The Brightest Lesson”, with lyrics by ex-Putney High School music teacher, Julie Sharp could not have been a more fitting tribute to all of those celebrating the proud history of the school.
Putney’s music department is formidable, with many keen instrumentalists, composers, ensembles, choirs, orchestras, a cappella groups, jazz bands, guitar groups and an impressive classical repertoire. Students go on to study at conservatoires and more pupils go on to study music at Oxbridge than any other subject. In the last year alone, Putney’s musicians were separately named both Kingston and Wandsworth Young Musicians of the Year.
