Joins model Vogue Williams for World Oceans Day 2022

Peppa Pig has been on the foreshore near Putney Bridge this week to help a group of school children and Irish model Vogue Williams pick litter.
The event took place on Wednesday (8 June) which is United Nations World Oceans Day and a further 10 beach and river clean ups are planned involving Peppa throughout June.
Guided litter picks will take place across the country and environmental organisation, Cleaner Seas Project and educational publisher, Twinkl are providing free Peppa Pig activities and interactive resources to help raise awareness about the importance of the ocean, recycling and proper waste disposal.
It is estimated that nearly a third of plastic packaging produced annually ends up in the ocean which is the equivalent of pouring a rubbish truck filled with plastic into the ocean every minute. The campaign is attempting to raise awareness of the need for recycling and proper waste disposal.

Vogue Williams said, “Peppa & I have partnered with the fantastic Cleaner Seas Project and Twinkl to inspire little ones across the UK in taking small steps to make a big difference to our oceans. To kickstart the 10 Peppa Pig beach and riverside cleans happening in aid of World Oceans Day, we went to the Thames riverbank with an amazing team of little helpers to clean up the shoreline and learn more about how we can help to protect the ocean, one piece of litter at a time.

The Putney towpath community action group is a group of local people who volunteer to highlight and seek a solution to the problem of non-organic litter/non-bio-degradable items on the Putney Embankment towpath and foreshore before the items are washed out to sea by the next high tide, affecting marine life in our Seas and Oceans. They share their litter collection data with Thames21 the leading waterways charity dedicated to putting healthy rivers back at the heart of community life.
