The fate of the local historic posters and artwork that hung on the walls of The Railway pub is looking uncertain. The Group Property Director of Revolution Bars this Thursday (4 October) informed Councillor Ryder that, "we believe the artwork might be in a container which has been sold as a lot to a Scottish dealer. I am still hopeful that we will track it down. Do you have images of the pictures they want as I believed there is a lot of artwork in the container not all from Putney."

Cllr Ryder backed the mission started by Putney resident Philip Evison and had written to the company on Monday (4 October). Mr Ryder told this website: "It would be good to save a reminder of Putney's history, as the Railway itself has been such an iconic sight at the corner of our high street since 1886, serving up pints through the Depression and two world wars. We should always remember that our past is what helps shape our future."

Local resident Philip Evison has tried to save the historic local posters and artwork that hung on the walls of the former pub he found the new owners unsupportive. Philip told PutneySW15: "The pub had on its walls, on both floors, many interesting old photographs and prints, with explanatory text, highlighting significant people and events in Putney’s rich history, e.g. Edward Gibbon, Thomas Cromwell, the Putney Debates, the building of Putney’s two bridges, David McKee (author of the Mr Benn books) etc etc. It is to be hoped that the new proprietors will preserve, or even display, these valuable memorabilia, or will otherwise offer them to local bodies such as the Putney Library or the Putney Society".
