Last week a high-tech defibrillator was donated by the Putney Rotary Club and was funded through donations from the local community. The cabinet is located inside the Putney Exchange and is accompanied by plaque recognising Rotary.

A public access defibrillator was used on Bolton Wanderers footballer Fabrice Muamba when he collapsed during a match in 2012. Muamba survived despite being unconscious for 78 minutes.

The Rotary Club were represented by President Barry Rowe at the unveiling and he was accompanied by Wandsworth Mayor, Cllr Leslie McDonnell, Putney Exchange Manager Anne Partridge and Rotarians Colin Mathews, Tony Chase and Chris Wyatt.

“This critical life-saving equipment will ensure that residents or visitors to Putney can be treated as soon as possible” said Wandsworth Mayor Cllr Leslie McDonnell. “Given that less than 5% of people who have a heart attack survive with CPR alone but 50% survive with CPR and the prompt use of a defibrillator, we are delighted that the Putney Rotary Club has provided this facility. This project was initiated by former Wandsworth Mayor and Past President of Putney Rotary Club, Cllr Jim Maddan who passed away earlier this year.
