Putney based charity supports young people in care
Appeal aims to fund supportive homes for children in care
To support children and young people in care, St Christopher’s Fellowship has launched its Christmas fundraising appeal.
It hopes to raise £20,000 to help provide supportive homes for children and young people where they can feel safe and cared for at Christmas, and ready to take on new challenges in the New Year.
St Christopher’s Fellowship is a charity based in Putney that provides children’s homes, supported housing, fostering services and outreach support to children in care, care leavers and young people who are homeless.
The charity says, “The last two years have taught us all about the importance of ‘home’. Having a warm and welcoming place to belong is crucial for young people in care. Many children and young people in care lack the safety and stability they deserve and being away from their families can make Christmas challenging for them.
“The homes St Christopher’s provides are places where young people can flourish and have a stable environment to try new things and take on life’s challenges. St Christopher’s provide a safety net if they face difficulties and makes sure they keep trying to do the things that matter to them.
“Donations to St Christopher’s Christmas appeal helps them continue to provide young people with supportive homes where they can build relationships, be hopeful for the future, and thrive.”
The charity started out as Homes for Working Boys in 1870, set up by three school friends to aid boys and young men who moved to London for work but struggled to support themselves. They merged with the Fellowship of St Christopher’s in 1967 with a renewed focus on providing safe homes for young people who could not live with their own families or were homeless.
