The Fulham Camerata will be performing at St Mary's Church Putney
On Saturday June 22 the Fulham Camerata will be performing at the beautiful riverside venue of St Mary’s Church, Putney High Street.
Performing their lighter format of short pieces, mostly madrigals, centred around one of their favourite composers, John Rutter. His collection The Sprig of Thyme forms the backbone of the programme, with imaginative settings of favourite folk songs such as ‘The keel row’ and ‘The bold grenadier’.
The programme features other songs from around the British Isles, with ‘Sweet Suffolk Owl’ by the 17th century composer Thomas Vautor being a particular delight. Pieces by composers from other parts of the British Isles such as Charles Wood, William Mathias, Paul Mealor and James MacMillan are also included. Finally, the programme also features one very special composition by the choir's bass choral scholar, Seb Johnson, and another prize winner (of the NCEM young composers award) from their composer in residence, Ben Rowarth!
You won’t want to miss it. It’ll be a wonderful summer evening programme.
Fulham Camerata is primarily a non-auditioning amateur chamber choir, inclusive and musically diverse. It is supported by a smaller, auditioning Fulham Camerata Ensemble which is mainly made up of professional and semi-professional singers, allowing the main Camerata to tackle exciting repertoire and maintain high musical standards. Its members span all age groups, various nationalities and are drawn from diverse professional and ethnic backgrounds. The joy of singing is what binds them together.
The concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £15, with student concessions £10 and under 16s free, and are available from www.fulhamcamerata.com or on the door.
