On Sunday 10 May, neighbours from Clarendon Drive are dressing up and running a 1km lap of their road to raise money for Wandsworth FoodBank.

The organisers of the event, Becky & Ollie (21 & 24 years old) said; "It has been such a pleasure to knock on everyone's doors and gain such an enthusiastic reaction from our community to take part and to raise money."

The initial idea was to try and get 42 runners so that between them, they would cover the distance of a Marathon. Currently they have an amazing 75 runners (and still counting) which is fantastic!

In order to maintain social distancing, each household will be given a 10-minute time slot to run the distance. In these challenging times where no one can travel far, the sense of teamwork in the community is very important to keep people positive and ensure that everyone is looked after.

Wandsworth Foodbank, which is part of the Trussell Trust, has the slogan "Helping People In Crisis" and it has seen a record spike of people in need. In the wake of the Corona Virus, it has reported its busiest ever period with 135% more emergency food parcels being distributed across Wandsworth, including 145% more parcels going to children, compared to the same period in 2019.

The Chief Executive of the Trussell Trust, Emma Revie said: "The last few weeks have shown we must come together to protect each other against the unexpected. Like a tidal wave gathering pace, an economic crisis is sweeping towards us - but we don't all have lifeboats."

Hopefully, all the neighbourhoods in the Borough of Putney & Wandsworth can come together to help protect each other as well as those most vulnerable within the community. All are welcome to come and watch the cheering, smiling and running this Sunday from 11am onwards. You’re welcome to show your support by donating however big or small to:

All donations and support will be hugely appreciated!
