Released by Doverhouse Lions FC and Roehampton Playing Fields Community Trust

Doverhouse Lions FC and Roehampton Playing Fields Community Trust welcomed members of the local community to Roehampton Playing Fields on Dover House Road on Sunday to mark the centenary of the Armistice.



The event was very well attended by young and old alike, with an array of poppies on display made by children from local primary schools including All Saints, Sacred Heart Roehampton, Our Lady Queen of Heaven, Southmead School, St Joseph's Roehampton, Brandlehow, Alton School, Roehampton Church School and St Mary's CE Putney.

Desmond McDonald, an ex serviceman who is a current Lions coach gave a moving speech before the the crowd heard the Last Post and observed the two minutes silence with bowed heads, surrounded by silhouettes of servicemen which were part of the ‘There But Not There’ campaign.

This was followed by the release of 100 biodegradable red balloons which drifted up to the north east towards the Cenotaph.

Members of the public brought donations of Christmas gifts for Shooting Star Chase, the local children’s hospice caring for children with life-limiting conditions and their families.
