An exhibition of black and white photography is taking place in Putney as part of the Wandsworth Arts Fringe.

On 10,11, 17 and 18 June from 10am at 52 Sefton Street (SW15 1LZ) there will be a chance to look back on twenty years of the work of John Perkins as he returns to London to coach BMX.

From Boris Johnson’s 2001 election campaign when he was first elected to the Henley constituency to work camps in Dubai, and from his mother-in-law’s native Crimea to a decade of living in Cairo.

“My first love is black and white. It tells us that history is repeating itself – like the unchanging fates of the Tory heartland or battleships in Crimea – things we think don’t exist anymore, but they really do. It’s also the process from having a physical box in a camera, sending it to a lab, getting the prints – it’s slower and more deliberate. Everyone nowadays is moving so fast, it’s a pleasure to slow down sometimes.”

Ballerinas and Battleships will be held in a pop-up venue; it is a rare opportunity to witness the world through his eyes. Having lived in Cairo for over a decade, John has returned to his native London and will be showcasing over 70 photos and videos across five rooms.

• On the campaign trail with Boris Johnson, 2001
• Building Dubai, 2005
• Crimea with my mother-in-law, 2016
• BMX racing in Cairo, colour prints with engineering drawings & laser cut models
• Cairo Exodus, some impressions from 13 years in the city, with a video loop
