Free concerts commence in January and donations willingly accepted

The Putney Knitting Concerts tempt fate with their 13th season of concerts in 2017 and the series this year will feature two song recitals by distinguished artists: the soprano Ann Mackay will be coming to sing Mozart arias on March 19th, and on May 28th the Scottish tenor Jamie MacDougall will give a recital of lieder including Schumann's Dichterliebe.

Elsewhere Robert Bridge will be playing piano music by Bach, Janacek and Granados (February 26th), there will be cello sonatas played by Leo Melvin (April 23rd) and a cohort of string players led by Alison Hunka giving a rare performance of Spohr's Octet (July 9th) - and the season will kick off on January 22nd with a recital by the exuberant harpsichordist John Irving who will be playing three French Suites by Bach and linking them together with improvisations.

As ever the concerts are free with wine and cordial at no charge. The retiring collection at each concert covers the cost of hiring the church and the drinks with all the remainder going to a charity nominated by that evening's performer/s.

But so the performers don't go away entirely empty-handed for all their hard work, and as in previous years, organiser Robert Bridge is inviting donations to the performers' fund. This fund is divvied out amongst the performers across the series and has, so far, provided generous expenses which hopefully more than cover the musicians' costs of travel and time and leave a little over as a thank you from us all.
