Robert told this website: "Over the years that I have organised and curated the Knitting Concerts I have unashamedly used them as an opportunity to learn and perform new repertoire. The piano repertoire is so vast and there are so many great iconic works that quite deliberately I have chosen pieces in recent years that were a challenge, either technically or interpretatively or both: Bach's Goldberg Variations; sonatas by Prokofiev, Berg, Barber and Tippett; Chopin and Ligeti Studies; Ravel's Gaspard de la Nuit, and so on. So this year, having already committed myself to preparing Beethoven's massive Diabelli Variations for concerts elsewhere, I decided to do something different at the Knitting Concerts and collect together a programme of music that I find enjoyable and intriguing and hope, reciprocally, will be both fun and interesting to listen to. From Busoni's epic re-working of Bach's Chaconne, to the haunting and mystical world of Janacek, and on to the sheer brilliance and flamboyance of Granados' piano writing, I genuinely think there is something here for everyone."
For anyone is new to Granados here is a little sneak preview from a rehearsal video Robert made a couple of weeks ago: Granados - The Maiden and the Nightingale
Those of you who heard John Irving perform in January might like to know that £400 went to his chosen charity, CLIC Sargent. The next concert will be on March 19th when the soprano Ann Mackay and pianist Kathron Sturrock will present a programme of voice and piano music by Mozart.
