A personal perspective on historic links
between Britain and Russia
by David Armstrong
One hundred years ago the modern world’s most dramatic and impactful revolution took place in Russia. Britain now prepares to resume a more global role in world affairs after Brexit, while a new US presidency promises a thaw in Russia’s relations with the West.
Having spent a significant part of his career in Russia, David Armstrong, who has been for several years a steward and organist at Putney Methodist Church, will share his personal insights into fascinating links through history between our two countries, which built the world’s two most extensive empires – at their peak covering 40% of the planet’s land area.
David will also discuss recent personal research in Moscow and London which has thrown fascinating new light on the surprising extent of British presence and influence in Russia during the decades leading up to the revolution.
