25,000 cyclists as well as professional road race expected on the High Street

Prudential RideLondon cyclist races over Putney Bridge on the home leg

Significant disruption is expected in the Putney area this Sunday (29 July) due to road closures for the PrudentialRide London cycling event. Putney Hill, Putney High Street and Putney Bridge will be closed as well as Tibbet’s Corner and Ride and roads further down the route in Wimbledon.

The road closures will begin at 7.30am and remain in place until an expected reopening time of 7.30pm.

Albert, Battersea, Chelsea, Chiswick and Kingston Bridges will all be closed for most of the day while Wandsworth Bridge will be closed with access for residents only from 7am to around 7.30pm. Only northbound traffic will be able to use Putney Bridge and the only access onto the bridge will be from the Lower Richmond Road.

The A3 will be open, although the exit slip roads at Esher Common, Coombe Lane and Tibbet’s Corner will be closed.

Amateur cyclists are expected to start passing through the Putney section of the race at around 9.20am and the peloton for the professional race should appear on Putney High Street shortly after 5.50pm. Unlike in previous years few well known names will be participating in the main race as the Tour de France reaches its final stage in Paris on the same day.

On Sunday 29 July the following events will take place in London and Surrey:

• Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 - 25,000+ amateur cyclists will take on a 100-mile cycle challenge through the closed roads of London and Surrey before finishing on The Mall
• Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 46 - a new event over 46 miles within the existing 100 mile challenge which has been designed as an introductory event for amateur riders, also starting at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and finishing on the Mall
• Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic - professional male cyclists will compete in this one-day race through London and Surrey. The race starts at Horse Guards Parade, St James's Park before heading into Surrey and returning to the Capital to finish on The Mall
• Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 19 New for 2018, this 19-mile ride starts at Sandown Park and finishes on The Mall.

On Saturday 28 July, spectators will be able to watch the following events in London:

• Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle - up to 70,000 cyclists exploring an 8-mile traffic-free loop in central London.
• Prudential RideLondon Classique - see the world's best female cyclists compete in this UCI World Tour race.
• Brompton World Championships - The 11th Brompton World Championship Final will take place on closed roads around St James's Park.
