Main Roads in Putney Shut This Sunday For Cycling Event | ||||
25,000 cyclists as well as professional road race expected on the High Street
Significant disruption is expected in the Putney area this Sunday (29 July) due to road closures for the PrudentialRide London cycling event. Putney Hill, Putney High Street and Putney Bridge will be closed as well as Tibbet’s Corner and Ride and roads further down the route in Wimbledon. The road closures will begin at 7.30am and remain in place until an expected reopening time of 7.30pm. Albert, Battersea, Chelsea, Chiswick and Kingston Bridges will all be closed for most of the day while Wandsworth Bridge will be closed with access for residents only from 7am to around 7.30pm. Only northbound traffic will be able to use Putney Bridge and the only access onto the bridge will be from the Lower Richmond Road. The A3 will be open, although the exit slip roads at Esher Common, Coombe Lane and Tibbet’s Corner will be closed. Amateur cyclists are expected to start passing through the Putney section of the race at around 9.20am and the peloton for the professional race should appear on Putney High Street shortly after 5.50pm. Unlike in previous years few well known names will be participating in the main race as the Tour de France reaches its final stage in Paris on the same day.
