Author of Girl with a Pearl Earring is the guest of the Friends of Putney Library
The novelist Tracy Chevalier, author of Girl with a Pearl Earring, will be speaking at Putney Library in Disraeli Road on Wednesday 6 March from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. Drinks are available from 6pm and no booking is required. Her talk will be about the writing life.
The event is organised by the Friends of Putney Library. It came about when Tracy Chevalier learned that one of her novels, The Last Runaway, had come first in Putney Library’s list of top ten books borrowed in a particular month last year. The Last Runaway is about an English Quaker who emigrates to Ohio in the 1850s and helps runaway slaves.
Tracy Chevalier has written nine novels and edited two collections of short stories. Girl with a Pearl Earring, her second novel, sold five million copies world-wide and was made into a film starring Colin Firth and Scarlet Johansson. She has also curated three shows in art galleries and museums.
Her latest novel, A Single Thread, will be published in the UK and USA in September 2019, with other countries to follow.
The Friends of Putney Library aim to protect, enhance and promote the role of the library in the community. Since their launch in 2013, they have organised several talks each year by authors and other speakers on a wide range of subjects, both of local and wider interest. They also organise events for children in the children’s library. You can join the Friends’ mailing list by sending an email to friendsofputneylibrary@gmail.com
