Could you be of Viking descent? Or perhaps related to the Basques?
Did you know that almost one million Britons alive today are of Viking descent? Around 930,000 descendants of warrior race exist today - despite the Norse warriors’ British rule ending more than 900 years ago. If you have Celtic ancestry you may be closely related to the Basques rather than the Danes.
Begin to bring your family story to life by learning about your family’s past.
Join Andy Crane (U3A) on Thursday 22nd November at 6.30pm and find out how to get started with your family tree using the facilities at Putney Library.
With so many of our records now available online, you will find out how to use Census records and Records of birth, marriage and death. Military records help trace those in the services and Immigration records show those arriving from abroad.
Considerable detective work is needed to fill in your family tree, but along the way you will find out much of interest. The English, Welsh, Irish, and Scots have spread across the globe; their descendants now live in almost every country around the world. You may even find out about relatives you didn’t know existed.
This talk is the first of two organised by the Friends of Putney Library and will concentrate on using the free facilities available in Putney Library. The second talk, planned for next February, will focus on the information available at the National Archive in Kew.
A Friends of Putney Library Free Event. No tickets required, but pre-booking recommended by phoning 020 8780 3085 or by email to charlene.coleman@gll.org
