On 20th November, a longstanding member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and of Putney Music, June Mendoza’s prolific output has included musicians, actors, authors, royalty and politicians. There are also musicians in her family so her reflections to Andrew Keener on what pleases both her eye and ear are certain to be of interest.
Putney Music was founded in 1950 and is still going as strong as ever. They meet at the Dryburgh Hall, Putney Leisure Centre, SW5 1BL. They start at 8.00 and finish by 10.00, with a short interval for coffee, cake and conversation in the middle.

James Bowman talks with Putney Music’s Vice-President Martin
Neary about musicians he has worked with, operatic roles he has
created and the role of the countertenor in music past and present. Please note that this talk wil be held in the Lower Hall, Community Church,

15 January Strings to a Bow

Neary introduce their choice of music for the New Year social.
5 February * My Musical Life Part 2: Mozart
President, David Cairns, reflects on the part the Austrian composer
played in his life and career.
19 February Thoughtful Virtuoso
Paul Lewis has earned a reputation not only as one of today’s top
pianists both as a soloist and chamber musician, but also as an artist
of remarkable insight and depth. He talks with Putney Music’s Vice-President Piers Lane.
5 March Comparing Notes 3, Brothers in Tune
Colin Matthews and David Matthews are brothers whose mentors
included Nicholas Maw and Benjamin Britten and are among today’s
most sought after composers. They talk with Peter Avis about their
careers and musical influences.
19 March Cello Travels
British cellist Guy Johnston talks with Peter Avis
about his life as part of a musical family and a recent recording
project: a European odyssey with his precious seventeenth-century
German cello made by David Tecchler.
23 April 7.30pm start
Annual General Meeting followed by wine, buffet and a raffle.

Membership is only £35 for the whole season so is only £2.50 each evening
Half season (January – April) is only £18 (£2.57 a meeting)
Visitors are £8 per meeting and this can be refunded if you join within 14 days
