Eight day feast of music and dance gives area a chance to shine
Other areas of London have their festivals so it is probably overdue for Putney to have one and that is exactly what is happening this August. An eight day festival of music and dance is set to take place centred around St Margaret’s Church. The event is the brain child of freelance opera singer and producer Rhiannon Llewellyn who lives and works in Putney. Building on the success of the virtual and in person concerts held at St Margaret’s Church, she decided a festival would work in the area and soon found plenty of support for the idea. She said, “I’ve experienced the extraordinary difficulties the arts have faced over the past year. On the other hand I’ve also seen the strength of my local community, rallying together delivery food parcels, medicines and friendly support when it was most, most needed.” “With local arts festivals such as Barnes and Wimbledon being total sell out successes, we believe its Putney’s time to shine.” The eclectic programme includes opera recitals, film, a chance to learn how to play the drums Irish-style and to take part in a choral workshop as well as experience a Street Dance the Maypole & Ceilidh Jam Workshop.
