For those in South West London who feel they are so near the All England Club, yet so far from ever getting on a court - Putney Lawn Tennis Club can help.

The oldest tennis club in England, bar Wimbledon itself, is offering a day of free tennis - including equipment, balls and activities on 8 July. From 10am until 4pm the friendly staff and coaches will be on hand to get you playing.

In-between play, visitors can enjoy refreshments and watch the Wimbledon Men's semi-finals matches which will be shown on the club's new large HD screen.

The event is part of the Great British Tennis Weekend which will see thousands of clubs promoting tennis and encouraging people of all abilities to pick up a racket.

David Halls, Putney Lawn Tennis Club Manager said: "Everyone is welcome. We love our members but it's always great to have new faces at the club. We have 10 courts so there's room for all levels of play...."
