A play based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is happening at St Margaret’s Church later this month.

The new production 'A rose by another name: Juliet & Romeo' by Marginalia fuses the words of the Bard with melodies from Bellini's 'I Capuleti e i Montecchi'. This newly devised and fully staged mix of theatre and opera, aims to bring you star-crossed lovers as never before.

It will be performed in English and Italian with English surtitles.

It takes place at 7.30pm on Friday 22 October and runs for around 70 minutes tickets, which cost £15 (full price), £10 students and £5 for under 18s can be purchased here.

Marginalia is a new interdisciplinary performance collective made up of graduates from top universities, conservatoires and theatre schools. They aim to bring academic research to life in performance, telling stories that have remained hidden on the margins of history and re-energising well-known repertoire by exploring it from different perspectives.

One of the company’s aims is to make classical music more accessible to more diverse audiences: ‘A rose by another name’ tells a familiar story anew aiming to appeal to life-long opera fans, those who usually stick to the theatre and those who are new to both.
