Thackeray Estates development with hotel on corner of Werter Road
Proposed building for 111-117 Putney High Street
The Thackeray Estate held a public consultation this week (5 December) for its plans for 111- 117 Putney High Street which approximately 50 people attended.
The proposal is for a mixed use development comprising the extension and alteration of 111-117a Putney High Street. This would provide a new and improved retail unit on the corner of Putney High Street and Werter Road in place of soon to be vacant WHSmith’s and the currently vacant former Starbucks unit. The upper levels would comprise a new hotel of circa 100 to 125 bedrooms with a focus towards the business community that would be accessed from Werter Road.
111-117 Putney High Street - current buildings
A spokesman for Thackeray Estates told this website, "The existing building reads as two parts, the Putney High Street elevation, which Thackeray Estate propose to retain, with the additional of a slate roof mansard extension. the Werter Road elevation, which has a negative impact on the town centre, we propose to replace the concrete framed building with a new building of the same mass, in a modern brick design to complement the neighbouring properties. All materials would be high quality and compliant the retained building, including the use of stock bricks. The hotel would not have a restaurant on-site, which will encourage guests to make use of Putney’s existing selection of eateries and keep any additional car journeys to the area to an absolute minimum.
He continued, "We hope to move forward with this scheme and prepare a planning application in early 2019".

The Putney Society told this website, "The Putney Society Buildings Panel likes the fact that the building will retain the corner with only one added storey, but we would prefer to have seen offices above to generate customers for actual shops below".
