Will occupy site on corner of Putney Bridge Road
Wandsworth Council’s planning committee have given approval to an application to build a ten storey hotel on 31-43 Putney High Street. As well as the 197 bedroom hotel, the development on the corner of Putney Bridge Road will include office and retail space. The site has been occupied a three storey building which is tenanted by Brazilian restaurant Preto and had been the location of Italian restaurant Mascalzone. The proposal by Governside Ltd is granted subject to the signing of a section 106 agreement. The applicant has said previously that they have held conversations with international hotel groups about the operation of the hotel. The scheme was first put forward in 2017 but was revived last August with an increase in the amount of office space and hotel rooms from the original design. The retail space on the High Street was moved up to ground floor level having been in the basement in the previous design. The hotel reception and restaurant have been switched to the basement level, The development will be linked through an internal publicly accessible courtyard with the nearby development at Levellers Court which will be around the same height. The scheme had been opposed by the Better Putney campaign group which described it as out of scale with the surrounding area.
