The Coconut Tree planning national expansion with SW15 site targeted

According to a report in the industry press, Sri Lankan street food chain the Coconut Tree is considering opening a branch in Putney.

The restaurant group, which was founded by five Sri Lankan friends from London starting with a branch in Cheltenham in 2016 in a converted pub, is planning a national expansion and has appointed property agency Fleurets to advise them.

They aspire to serve the very best Sri Lankan street food and innovative drinks within a ‘cool, quirky environment’.

They already have a second branch in Oxford and are reportedly about to open in Bristol and are looking at sites in Brighton, Bath, Exeter, Reading and Cardiff according to a report on the Big Hospitality web site.

The site quotes Kevin Conibear, head of urban markets at Fleurets, as saying, “The Coconut Tree is a great example of an innovative new brand that is making the UK restaurant and bar market so exciting at present.

“Whilst unfortunately we have witnessed some casualties in recent time, good quality concepts from emerging markets are thriving and The Coconut Tree has quickly established itself as a highly respected bar and restaurant backed by an experienced team, with the quality to grow throughout the UK.”

The report also states that they are looking at sites in Chiswick, Wimbledon, Parsons Green, Richmond, Kensington and Battersea.

Their brand advisor Anna Garrod has connections with the local area having been previous managing director of the Po Na Na group.
