'Legendary' Putney night club signing off with a Sounds of the Souk closing party
A Putney institution looks set to close its doors for the final time this month. The Fez Club on the Upper Richmond Road has announced on its Facebook page that a Sounds of the Souk night on 28 July will be the official closing party for the Moroccan themed night spot. As just about the only place for late night dancing in the Putney area it has been a firm favourite among local residents for many years some of whom wouldn't quibble at the use of the term 'legendary'. The club in the heart of Putney, was open from Wednesday to Saturday nights and hosted all sort of events from student parties to club nights for dancers from across the age range. The club says on its Facebook page, “The memories will live on but Saturday at Fez will not. Please shout to your Fez friends and tell them to join you for the last ever Fez club night EVER. Expect a night of Fez Floor filler favourites, DJs from the past Fez decades playing commercial house with closing party surprises in abundance.” It costs £5 if you sign up for the guest list, £10 if you arrive before midnight and £15 after or you can book a Moroccan VIP table and all the trimmings to avoid the crowds. The party will continue until 4am.
It is not clear what will happen to the premises although the Facebook page hints at new club being opened after a refurbishment. We have asked the Fez Club for comment.
