Classic French cuisine blended with Middle Eastern and Asian cooking

A new restaurant opening in Putney Wharf is claiming to be 'one of a kind' with its blend of classic French cuisine and Middle Eastern and Asian cooking.

Bistro Vadouvan is the second venture of friends Durga Misra and Uttam Tripathy. Their previous opening was Polti in Hammersmith which specialises in what is described as 'Indian market food'. However, they have not stuck with this concept for the new restaurant.

'Vadouvan' is a blend of spices that is a French version of masala.

With four quite distinct dining sections, the Bistro aims to cater for a wide range of guests, from locals grabbing a quick bite, families and friends eating a leisurely meal to parties and special events. The main dining area features stripped beams and an open wine cellar as well as a electric blue banquette. At the centre is a block wood communal dining table.

For quick bites and kitchen views the kitchen bar offers dining options, while there is a semi-private balcony for groups and parties up to 16. When the weather improves there are plenty of tables on the outside terrace.

A spokesperson for the restaurant said, "Bistro Vadouvan’s concept cleverly mixes classical French cuisine with subtle elements of Middle Eastern and Asian spice, creating mouth-watering and original dishes that are packed full of taste while also having a delicate, contemporary feel. This unique balance and lightness of touch brings out the best of the much-loved French culinary style, whilst also reflecting today’s inclination for healthier food.”
