In a bid to help raise vital funds for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People’s 30th Anniversary in 2012, the Charity’s Community Fundraising Manager for the South East Sue Pellow is appealing to dog owners and dog lovers alike to organise their own sponsored dog walks right across the South East.

It’s hoped a network of similar events – being formed right across the UK – will help to raise substantial funds for the Charity that trains dogs to alert deaf people to important sounds both around the home - such as alarm clocks, doorbells and smoke alarms – and also in public buildings.

Sue Pellow said,“We are looking for 30 willing volunteers to support us during our 30th anniversary year by organising a sponsored walk and asking family, friends and work colleagues to take part.

“We are offering two half day meetings to discuss our 2012 Sponsored Walk plans on Saturday 26th November and Saturday 3rd December in East Grinstead and we will also be providing support materials, posters, flyers and sponsorship forms to help make each event a great success”.

Volunteers undertaking this role will gain valuable fundraising experience and in the process, will help to fund the training and lifetime care of more hearing dogs, which costs around £45,000 per dog.

Currently there are over 750 working hearing dogs in the UK. The Charity is non-Government funded and relies entirely on donations and the fundraising efforts from its supporters.
