Mixed reaction after replacement with sushi concession

The closure of the deli counter in the Waitrose store in Putney Exchange has met with a mixed reaction from local residents.

Waitrose have told us that the majority of products that were available on the deli counters are still available in store and that they have a wide variety of cheeses and pre-packed products to choose from. However, many customers preferred their cheeses and other delicacies to be individually cut to order and are sceptical that the range will remain as wide.

A spokesperson for Waitrose said, "Our new sushi counter has been launched in co-operation with Sushi Daily, the European market leader in sushi bars and counters. It is designed to ensure that Waitrose Putney reflects the needs of today's customers, many of whom will increasingly want delicious yet convenient food to eat on the go, or a quick and healthy option for an evening meal."

Putney’s Waitrose first opened in 1996 and received a multi-million pound refit in 2013 increasing floor size by 1,700 sq ft to 20,300 sq ft. Like every Waitrose branch the Putney store gives away £1,000 every month to local charities and projects through its Community Matters scheme and Partners donate 250 hours every year to helping local causes through our Partner Volunteering scheme.
