You can help stop Wandsworth Council closing one of Putney's most established "green" businesses.

Wandsworth Council are attempting to grant itself planning permission to develop the area that presently houses the garden centre on the corner of Dryburgh Road.

The centre's lease expires in May 2002 and the council feels that the land is superfluous to their requirements and that building five dwellings will produced the best value for the rate payers - is lower council tax worth losing this centre of horticultural excellence?

The Garden Centre has been in situ since the 1960's and not only offers a source of horticulture for the residents but also allows school children to visit to learn about plant life, and supplies numerous Landscape Gardeners for their own businesses.

The Centre is running a petition which has well over 6000 signatures as local support is strong and has been presented to the council, but is still ongoing in.

In addition to individual support the Putney Society, the Roehampton Garden Society and the Putney Common Association have also voiced their support.
