A person has died after being hit by a train near Mortlake station.

The fatality occurred at some time shortly before 10am on Thursday (1 November).

A London Air Ambulance landed on Mortlake Green but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

There are unconfirmed reports that the deceased is a teenage boy.

Mortlake station was closed and train services were suspended while emergency services dealt with the issue.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said, “Shortly after 10am today, officers were called to Mortlake station, after reports of a person being struck by a train.

"Officers are currently on scene alongside paramedics, however a person has sadly been pronounced dead.

"Work is now being made to identify the person and inform their family.

"This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

South Westeren Railway halted services between Whitton and Mortlake and diverted Reading/Windsor trains through Brentford. Normal services have now being resumed.
