police seek Cockney accented caller to come forward... ...
Police are appealing for the public to help them trace a 23 year-old man’s laptop, which was stolen from an open window of his home in Upper Richmond Road, Putney, on Thursday 28 September at approx 2245 hours. The victim left the room he was working in to say goodnight to his wife and returned to see his laptop computer had been stolen. He did not see any suspects. Later in the night he received a telephone call from a man with a strong cockney accent, who claimed he had taken his computer off a group of “toerags” and that “he didn’t want to get involved” but would leave the laptop in a black binbag in a skip on Carlton Drive, Putney outside the council flats. The caller did not leave his name or contact details. The victim rang the police and was advised not to go to the rendezvous point for safety reasons. Two police officers searched the skip and surrounding area but could not find the laptop. A police spokesperson said: “This is an unusual case and we are appealing for the man with the cockney accent to come forward and help us with the investigation. If he would like to remain anonymous then he can phone Crimestoppers. “If you know anything about the burglary or have details on the laptop then please contact police or Crimestoppers.”
