PUTNEY HEATH RAPE - APPEAL FOR INFORMATION

Detectives from Wandsworth CID are appealing for information and witnesses after a woman was raped on Putney Heath on Thursday 11th July.

Police believe the 22 year old woman was walking on Putney Heath, SW15, at approximately 17:00 on Thursday 11th July when she was attacked. The woman was walking along a path that leads away from the ponds at Roehampton Lane when she was attacked.

The woman was grabbed from behind and pulled into the undergrowth. The woman was then raped. Her attacker is described as a white male who was dressed in a blue boiler suit. The man was described as speaking with a ‘geordie’ accent.

DC Mark Hanley, of Wandsworth CID, said: "This was a particularly nasty and predatory attack. We are appealing to anyone that was in the vicinity of Putney Heath at approximately 5pm on the evening of Thursday 11th July who may have seen something or someone acting in a suspicious manner".

"The suspect was a white man wearing a blue boiler suit and it is believed he left the immediate scene of the attack on foot. I would specifically appeal to anyone who regularly visits Putney Heath, perhaps to walk a dog, who may have seen something out of the ordinary or someone acting suspiciously that day".

Anyone with information or who may have witnesses the incident is asked to phone DC Mark Hanley, of Wandsworth, CID, on 020 8870 9011. If you wish to give information anonymously please call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
